Equal Importance for Development and Conservation, says new Collector of Nilgiris

Udhagamandalam: Development of tourism will be a thrust area but it will not be at the cost of the environment,said Innocent Divya who assumed charge as the 113th Collector of the Nilgiris here on Monday.

She is the fifth woman to become Collector of this hilly district after Jayanthi in the early 1980s,Leena Nair in early 1990s, Supriya Sahu in the early 2000s and Archana Patnaik in the early 2010s.

Listing her priorities,she said that focus will be on keeping Ooty clean.

Stating that provision of better infrastructural facilities in tribal areas will also be high in the list of priorities of the district administration,she said that she will draw up a plan of action after studying various aspects of the district.

Hailing from Tuticorin Ms,Divya who belongs to the 2009 batch had served as an officer in the Special Cell of the Chief Minister when Ms.Jayalalithaa was at the helm.
