Failing in their attempt to besiege the North Zone Office and Indian-Made Foreign Spirits (IMFS) depot of the State run Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) near Kavundampalayam, members of the People’s Authority Movement, staged a road roko on the busy Mettupalayam Road, in the early hours on Wednesday.

Around 100 members of the Movement earlier demanded that the State Government should immediately close all TASMAC shops in the district and attempted to lay siege to the office.

However, their attempts were foiled by the City Police who were already on the spot. The members stormed the Mettupalayam Road later and staged a road roko pressing their demands.

They raised slogans alleging that AIADMK’s promise to prohibit liquor step-by-step was a false claim, adding that complete prohibition should be imposed immediately.

The members were arrested by the City Police and released in the evening.
