Fake ‘flying squad’ robs trader

Coimbatore : Impersonating as election flying squad members, two youngsters on Friday cheated a 60-year-old trader and relieved him of cash and gold ornaments, near Annur, in the rural limits.

Arumugham of Mettupalayam was coming on his two wheeler, when two persons stopped him and started checking his vehicle,claiming that they were members of an election flying squad.

The duo removed three sovereigns of gold chain, his cell phone and Rs,2,000 and asked Arumugham to come to the police jeep parked on other side of the road.

However, there was no jeep there and the trader realised that he had been cheated. He immediately lodged a complaint with Mettupalayam police station, they said.

Based on the complaint, police are on the lookout for the cheats.
