Farmer trampled to death by elephant

Ooty : A 55-year old farmer was trampled to death by an elephant late last night near  Nagampalli coming under Mudumalai some 70 KMs from here.

The family members who were waiting for Vasu, to return from Gudalur, noticed the body lying, with smashed head and the footmarks of elephants nearby,  police said.

Forest department and Police officials are investigating the issue, they said. Unconfirmed sources also state that the farmer had ventured out in the night drunk.
