Thousands of farmers from Tamil Nadu, especially those from the delta region, will participate in a human chain protest near the Parliament on March 2, to highlight their various demands, including the resolution of the Cauvery and Mullaiperiyar disputes.

PR Pandian, member of the Tamil Nadu All Farmers Association’s coordination committee, said that in addition to the Cauvery an dMullaiperiyar issue, the farmers will also demand that GAIL re-examine the possibilities of laying its gas pipelines along the national highways.

The protest has won the support of many political parties. The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee’s president EVKS Elangovan has promised them support and has told them that the Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi will meet them in New Delhi. GK Vasan, the chief of Tamil Maanila Congress, has agreed to send the members of his party’s farmers unit to participate in the protest.

The farmers’ delegate has also met the AIADMK Finance Minister and sought the support of his party’s MPs. They have also given letters to DMK chief, Mu. Karunanidhi.
