The 12-day fast, seeking to implement the long pending Avanashi-Athikkadavu Ground Water Recharge Scheme, at various places, has been withdrawn.

The withdrawal was based on the announcement made in the State Assembly yesterday by the Chief Minister who gave administrative sanction and funds for the project. Sources in the organising committee of the agitation who met last night at Avanashi, said today.

While 14 persons were on fast in Avanashi for the last 12 days, nearly 70 were on hunger strike, ranging from six to nine days in Annur, Cheyur and Peramanallur in Coimbatore and Tirupur districts for the issue.

Similarly, the decision to close industries and commercial establishments, like garment units today, was also cancelled, they said.
