The Madras High Court on Friday issued a stay order on the Chennai Metropolitan Magistrate court order on investigating a Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA) violation case registered against AIADMK (Amma) Deputy General Secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran.

Dhinkaran had filed a petition in the court to relieve him from the case. Justice M.S. Ramesh observed that opportunities have not been given to the petitioner during the course of hearing, ordered interim stay of the further proceedings in the case till July 17.

In his plea, Dhinakaran claimed that the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate on April 19 had not heard his advocate before framing charges.

Dhinakaran was booked under FERA after huge sums of money were deposited into his bank account between 1991 and 1996.
