Flag march taken out in Thanjavur to instill confidence among electorate

Thanjavur: Ahead of the assembly poll for Thanjavur constituency, personnel of the paramilitary who landed here for security duty carried out a flag march in the city to instill confidence among the electorate and ensure cent per cent polling.

Led by Collector A Annadurai and SP J Mahesh, personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and the Tamil Nadu Special Police (TSP) took out the flag march from the city railway junction.

The flag march covered Keezha Veedhi, Vellai Pillaiyar Koil Street, East Ghat, Kodimarathu Moolai (flag-mast corner) before culminating at North Ghat. Among others, DRDA project director Mandhirachalam, assistant collector (training) Prasanth, corporation commissioner M Varadarajan, tahsildar R Gurumurthy and APRO Suruli Prabhu participated in the march.

“The district administration is taking all measures to ensure free and fair polling. At least 48 polling booths have been identified as sensitive booths. To ensure peaceful, free and fair polling, CISF personnel will be deployed there. At least 82 cases have so far been registered against various political parties for violation of election model code of conduct. Cash taken without valid documents to the tune of Rs 9.08 crores has so far been seized. A total of 30 flying squads and nine static surveillance teams, all comprising central government employees, have been formed on the orders of the election commission,” Annadurai said.
