City-based NGO, No Food Waste, today launched the sidewalk fridge concept that would help the poor and the needy to get access to food anytime.

Prachi Aggarwal, national president of Ladies Circle, inaugurated the concept at Rathinam International Public School, Avinashi Road.

Addressing the children, NGO members urged the children not to throw away extra (untouched) food and special food that they get in parties or any functions, but to store it in these sidewalk refrigerators, so that poor and needy could take it from the fridge and consume.

The Food and Beverage ATMs, as they term it, were installed in R.S.Puram, Town Hall and Avinashi Road areas.

The refrigerators were sponsored by Penta Ladies Club, Circle 37.

The NGO has appealed to city schools, colleges and restaurants to be part of the initiative to help the needy and the poor.
