Forced marriage drives woman to suicide

A 19-year-old woman who was reportedly forced into marriage committed suicide by consuming yellow cow dung powder here on January 1.
According to sources, the deceased B. Kousalya from Madukarai was married to V. Babu (31) from Goundampalayam on November 15, 2015. The marriage was against her wishes, as Kousalya was in love with a colleague.
Even after marriage, Kousalya continued to be in touch with her lover-colleague despite her parents’ warnings. Frustrated with this, Kousalya had reportedly consumed yellow cow dung powder mixed with water and succumbed on the way to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on January 1.
A case has been registered with the Thudiyalur police station and the District Administration has initiated an RDO investigation.
