Four drown in Azhiyar dam

COIMBATORE: Three students and another person, who tried to rescue them from drowning, met with a watery grave in Azhiyar dam near Pollachi on Saturday.

According to police, 10 first year students of a private engineering college had gone to the dam and three of them attempted to take bath at a banned section.

Suddenly the students drowned in the water and hearing the screams of others, a person on the bank, Mohankumar tried to rescue them. However, he also drowned, they said.

Some persons on the bank managed to bring them on the bank. Two students Venkatesh and Hariharan died on the spot, while Mohan and other student Logeshwaran were declared brought dead at the Government hospital at Pollachi.

Police have registered a case.
