Even as sporadic protests continue against TASMAC and the sale of alcohol in the state, the Federation of Tamil Nadu Agriculturists Association has demanded that the DMK clarify its stand on toddy – if the party considers toddy as a health beverage or as liquor.
The DMK, in its election manifesto has announced that, if voted to power, it would impose complete prohibition in the state. In a written representation to the DMK election manifesto committee, led by T.R. Baalu, the secretary of the Federation of Tamil Nadu Agriculturists Association, S. Nallasami has asked the DMK to explain if toddy is a health beverage or liquor. He has also demanded to know if the party would lift the decade-long ban on toddy.
Nallasami has also asked the party to define its policies on water irrigation, uninterrupted electricity power supply to the farmers, and crop procurement.
