Gang of two-wheelers lifters busted; one held in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: In a major catch, two members of a gang, involved in theft of two-wheelers were arrested and 48 vehicles worth Rs 10 lakh were recovered from their possession.

A kingpin of the gang, Isakkipandi, was arrested in Tirunelveli on October 27 and seven vehicles were recovered, police said on Wednesday.

On information given by him, police kept strict vigil at two-wheeler parking slots at new bus stand in the city and noticed a person moving in a suspicious manner.

A special team nabbed Rasool Mohiaddin and on interrogation, he said that since 2017 he had stolen 150 motor cycles at various places in western districts and also Chennai and Madurai and 80 from Coimbatore city alone.

According to the confession of the accused, after lifting the two-wheelers from places like bus stands, malls and market places, he used to transport them in Omni buses to Tirunelveli, where Isakkipandi and four others took delivery and sold them. His share of amount was transferred to his bank account, they said.

Police displayed 41 two-wheelers with Rasool beside them. Rasool was remanded in judicial custody.
