Children’s Day is celebrated all over the world on various days, to honour children. India celebrates the occasion on November 14, the birth anniversary of the country’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. This year, Coimbatore-based Don Bosco Anbu Illam Home for the Boys is getting ready to celebrate the occasion in a grand manner. The home is located in Ukkadam, and offers shelter to minor boys who are orphans, and semi-orphans. The home currently has about 120 inmates.

“This year, we have joined hands with homes from Tirupur, Erode, and Coimbatore. About 350 children from the four homes will participate in the two-day long Children’s Day celebrations, scheduled to take place on November 14 and 15,” I. Angeline, Child Line activist said. Angeline told us that there are several activities planned for the children. On the agenda are entertainment and a variety of games. There is also a bonfire night organized for the children. The talent night will provide a platform for the children to display their talents.

Don Bosco Anbu Illam invites participation from the public for the Children’s Day celebrations. The home is also open to donations in cash or kind. Father David Ryan is the Director of Don Bosco Anbu Illam and can be reached at 94437-21098.
