Students of the GKD Matriculation Higher Secondary School today won the Coimbatore edition of the TCS IT Wiz 2016 quiz contest at the PSG College of Arts and Science.

The school, represented by Harikrishnan and Jagidesan, would represent Coimbatore at the finals in Mumbai. St. Jude’s Public School from Kotagiri, represented by Mithun and Ashwin, came second. The quiz was open to students from Grade VIII to XII.

More than 700 students from various schools participated in the preliminary round today. This year’s theme was ‘Default is Digital’.

The top six teams from the preliminary written round were qualified for the regional finals.

The quiz, hosted by Giri Balasubramaniam, had five rounds in all. Two of them were buzzer rounds with negative markings.

Though it looked like any body’s contest after the first round, the third round made the difference.

Calm and composed, Harikrishnan and Jagidesan earned appreciation of the quiz master who remarked, “if a team can talk about the connection between the poem Kubla Khan by Samuel Taylor and project Xanadu, it is very clear that the students have prepared well.”

The winners walked away with an i-pad air and goodies each and the runners-up were also presented with an i-pad mini and goodies.
