Chandrasekhar is an elated and a healthy person now.

The 33-year-old resident of Vellamadai had every reason to smile as he participated in a function at G. Kuppusamy Naidu Memorial Hospital (GKNMH) to mark the first anniversary of the first successful heart transplantation.

On August 30 last year, Chandrasekhar underwent a heart transplantation. “It is a moment to cherish. I am feeling good,” he said.

According to Dr. P. Chandrakum, Director of Cardiothoracic Department of the Hospital, it was a very complicated surgery. “Heart diseases have become so common these days thanks to the eating habits and lifestyle people follow.

Even people in their thirties get heart problem. But the good thing is awareness on organ donation is very good in Tamil Nadu,” he said.

Doctors, paramedical staff and other employees of the hospital participated.
