Eight sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs. 18,000 cash were stolen from the house of a corporation worker near Saibaba Colony here on Monday.

According to police, Manikandan (42), was working in the Tender Department of the Coimbatore Corporation and was living in Saibaba Colony near Mettupalayam Road with his family. He had reportedly gone to Nagapattinam on vacation this Pongal season with his family members.

On his return, Manikandan found his house’s window broken and property, including an LED television, DVD player, ipad, 8-sovereign gold jewellery, Rs. 18,000 in cash and a silver shrine of Ganapathy, reportedly stolen by culprits.

He had filed a case with the Saibaba Colony police regarding the issue and they have started the investigation.
