Coimbatore : Bombay Burmah Trading Corporation Ltd won five awards in the 15th Golden Leaf India Award- Southern Tea Competition held recently at Ahmedabad.

Kanan Devan Hills Plantations Company Pvt Ltd and United Nilgiri Tea Estates Company Ltd shared 4 awards each, while Devon Plantations & Industries Ltd, Joonktollee Tea & Industries Ltd, Harrisons Malayalam Limited-SBU(B) and Kodanad Estate shared 3 awards each.

Harrisons Malayalam Limited-SBU(A) won 2 awards, Waterfall Estate Pvt Ltd and Woodbriar Group shared 1 award each, while Vigneshwar Estate Tea Factory won six awards in the Bought Leaf Factory Segment.

The final tasting session was held at Ahmedabad on April 27, where the 66 shortlisted teas that qualified the first and second level of screening were evaluated by a panel of jury comprising renowned tasters and major buyers, the Competition Convenor, Arun Kumar said today.

A B2B session was organized wherein large number of individual tea producers from South India and Buyers from Gujarat and Western India participated, he said..

A joint meeting of the United Planters Assocation of Southern India (UPASI) and Federation of All India Tea Traders Association (FAITTA) was also held for the promotion of South India Teas, Arun Kumar said
