Govt to renovate Kurichi lake

COIMBATORE: The Municipal Administration Department has decided to renovate the Kurichi lake in Coimbatore, according to State Minister S.P. Velumani.

Making an announcement in this regard in the Assembly on Monday, he said the department would initiate steps to upgrade the lake to a green park of international standard. Footpaths for walkers, bicycle track, children’s play area, playground would be set up around it, he added.

Steps would also be taken to increase the storage capacity of the lake and also to increase the underground water level, he said.

“Sewage treatment plants will be set up near the lake to treat the sewage water flowing from several places into the lake,” Velumani added.

Musical fountains would be set up in front of the lake. Gymnasium with green pastures would also be set up.

The lake, currently maintained by the Public Works Department, would soon be handed over to the City Corporation, the Minister said.
