The Agro Marketing Intelligence and Business Promotion Centre of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, located in Coimbatore, has predicted that there could be a notable fall in the prices of green gram.

During harvest season of April-May, the prices of green gram will hover around Rs.57 to Rs.60 per kg. The forecast is based on 11 years prices that prevailed in Villupuram Regulated Market for green gram.

The major green gram producing states in India are Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Odisha, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.

Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Thiruvallur, Thoothukudi, and Salem are the main green gram producing districts of Tamil Nadu. The state produced 1.83 lakh tonnes of green gram in 2014-15.
