Grieving AIADMK cadre self-immolates over CM’s hospitalisation

Chennai: An AIADMK functionary, who set himself ablaze at Tambaram Sanatorium yesterday, succumbed to his injuries this morning.
Sargunam, 31, reportedly immolated himself last night, as he was upset over Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa being hospitalised. According to sources, he worked as a security guard in a private company. On Wednesday night, he drove into the campus of the export company where he worked on his two-wheeler, doused himself in petrol and set himself alight.
People nearby attempted to put out the flames and rushed him to the government hospital in Chrompet. However, Sargunam died this morning. He is survived by wife and a daughter.
Party veterans have expressed shock over the incident and requested members not to resort to such extreme steps. “The Chief Minister is recovering,” they added.
