Coimbatoreans now have an alternative walkers park to the hugely popular one at the Race Course – the GV Residency Park! The six acre walkers park, located at GV Residency, is becoming one of the favourite destinations for joggers, walkers, cyclists and young mothers who take their little ones on their pram for a stroll. And, the number is growing with each passing day.

We are told that the park is home to over 600 trees. This piece of green paradise amidst the growing concrete jungle is a boon to the local residents.

Yesterday, on the occasion of the International Yoga Day (IDY), a programme to educate the public about the various health benefits of yoga was organised at GV Residency. The programme also discussed the importance of developing urban lung spaces in the city to improve the health of the people.

As a part of the programme, R. Raveendran, Secretary of the Residents Awareness Association of Coimbatore (RAAC), took the participants around the walkers’ park. “The path provides a clean and green lung space for the residents and aids a healthy livelihood. Establishment of parks like these around the city will cater to the needs of the entire community, and increase the green space available to the public,” he said.

He added that in a city that is battling growth and decreasing greenery, efforts like these are will set the trends on how the life of a common citizen can be improved with such small initiatives.
