Kozhikode: Heavy rains lashes across the State inundating low lying areas due to clogged drainage. This disrupted normal activities of the people as public transport came to a near standstill in many places.

The worst hit regions were three major cities of Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode. Once again this brought to fore the inefficiency of the local bodies in taking efforts to clear drainages before monsoon. District Administration issued caution against venturing into mountainous areas mainly Idukki and Wayanad. Fishermen have been asked to remain ashore as sea will remain sore until October 21.

Crop loss has been reported in many parts of the State. Landslides and uprooting of trees,

damaging of houses and disruption of traffic in some places, mainly Idukki and Attapady in Palakkad.

Patthanamthitta District received maximum rainfall during this season at 155 cm against normal 157 cm. It is likely to cross the normal level in the next few days as the rains are likely to continue for few more days.
