Around 250 volunteers, assisted by 20 State Home Guards, planted saplings on the outskirts of Pollachi today.
The drive was organised by the city-based NGO Pasumai Desam. Students from five colleges also participated in the event during which 1000 saplings were planted in a land measuring 8500 sq ft.
Later talking to Covai Post, Pasumai Desam founder R. Rajendar said the NGO planned to organise similar events in areas that lack green cover. “This is the first step towards that,” he added.
