The Ooty Mahila Court gave life sentence to a man for murdering his wife. The murder took place more than three years ago in Coonoor.

According to the prosecution, Suganya, the wife of mini-bus driver Balakrishnan, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her house in Kolakombai, near Coonoor, on January 6, 2013.

The then 26-year-old Balakrishnan had married Suganya in September 2011. There were frequent quarrels between the husband and wife over his alleged affairs with other women.

A year after Suganya’s death, in an inebriated condition, Balakrishnan admitted to Suganya’s sister that he had strangled her to death and had got away with it. Based on the sister’s complaint, police arrested Balakrishnan.

Balakrishnan was awarded a life sentence and a fine of Rs.10,000.
