The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M) has been ranked at the 43rd position in the top 50 Asian institutions. Also armed with the first rank certificate by the NIRF ranking in the HRD Ministry, the institute has settled with the overall score of 71.

The rank is based on academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty staff with PhD among others. The QS University Rankings of Asia highlights the top universities in the continent every year. The methodology used to create the ranking is similar to that used for the QS World University rankings, but with some additional indicators and adapted weightings.

This set of criteria, developed in consultation with regional experts and stakeholders, is designed to reflect key priorities for universities in Asia, drawing on as much available date as possible.

“We are delighted to be listed in the top 50 Asian University in QS-Asia rankings for 2016. We are also encouraged by our steep rise from the 56th position to the 43rd position,” IIT-M director Bhaskar Ramamurthi said.

Stating that the IIT-M has been focusing on growing and improving research, he said “teaching and overall curriculum as part of our Strategic Plan 2020, and it appears to be paying off.”
