India would soon become self-reliant in the field of electronics as the Electronic Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI) has planned to train more industry-oriented professionals.

Disclosing this after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a private college here, the CEO of ESSCI, N.K.Mohapatra said India was importing nearly 65 per cent of electronic goods. The trend would be reversed once more product development oriented jobs were created that would make the country a net exporter after 2020, he said.

Mohapatra said the main purpose of the MoU was to enhance the new technical skill based manpower training and to train existing employees and faculty.

“Focus will be on semi conductor technology. And for this purpose a centre of excellence in electronics has been opened in the college, where students will be trained in chosen skills of electronics,” he added.

Stating that the market required more electronic professional to meet the requirements, he said such agreements would generate more qualified people.
