Indo-UK joint workshop on plant molecular farming in July

The 3rd edition of Indo-UK Joint workshop ‘Plant Molecular Farming-III, will be held at Bharathiar University here on July 27.

The objective of the two-day workhop is to demonstrate the importance of the plant expression system as an alternate system for the production of valuable and complex therapeutics, a university release said.

The workshop is a part of a larger UKIERI (UK India Education and Research Initiative) sponsored collaborative research program that is in progress between the University and St. George’s University of London since 2007.

Dr. R. Sathishkumar, Associate Professor and Group Leader, Plant Genetic Engineering Laboratory will organize the workshop, which will provide hands on training to the participants, it said.

Prof. Julian Ma, renowned scientist and collaborator of the ongoing project from St. George’s University will co-organize this workshop, with an expert from Indian vaccine industry scheduled to deliver a lecture.
