Ooty: A leopard, which was caught in an iron noose, was rescued and is currently being treated at the Forest Department Office in Gudalur, some 80 kilometres from Coimbatore.

The four-year-old animal, which fell in the snare last night, was noticed by the villagers early today, who informed the forest department officials. The officials, including veterinarian, Dr. Vijayaraghavan, arrived at the spot at Mankuli and tranquilised the struggling leopard, which was hanging on its abdomen the entire night.

After ensuring that the animal lost consciousness, the leopard was transported to the department office, where the wounds are being treated.
