Employees of an IT company and residents of Pappanaikkanpalayam filled buckets of stagnating sewage water from their area and poured it inside the North Zone Corporation office here on Friday.

The rains that had been lashing the city had left many woes for the residents, thanks to the poor monsoon management measures of the Coimbatore Corporation.

Residents of Bharathipuram in Pappanaikkanpalayam have been putting up with the foul smell of sewage water that had been stagnating in their area for a long time. “We have complained about the issue several times to the civic body, but no action was taken,” said a resident.

Frustrated with this, residents and employees from a private IT company collected the drainage water in buckets and poured it inside the North Zone Corporation office. They had reportedly involved in such incident on Thursday also.

The protesters were stopped by the Race Course police who arrived at the scene. An argument broke out between police personnel and the protesters.

Police arrested 16 IT workers for entering into a Government office without permission and obstructing officers from working, by pouring sewage water.
