Cinema in schools!

This is all about modern-age storytelling in the form of highly relevant narratives that has a singular aim – to build better citizens.

School Cinema, functioning under the umbrella of EduMedia, is a value-based education concept that is catching up fast with schools around India.

With 15 schools in Coimbatore and counting, 700 plus schools and six lakh users in India to its credit, it churns out 10 short films for each class – from kindergarten to class 12, in addition to two films for teachers and parents of those classes.

Schools have set aside class time for the movie package along with its interactive workbook.

Started in 2010, it is part of EduMedia’s key verticals such as Krayon, Activity and Mentor, which are research based progressive offerings using the media.

Our success lies in the effect it creates, says Suresh G, an associate School Cinema company.

“A movie on the concept of pocket money had such an impact on a student that he told us he stopped taking allowances from his parents as it amounted to lavishness,” he told Covai Post on the sidelines of a school orientation programme, where an award-winning movie on family values held the rapt attention of the parents.

Who are behind these 20-minute film narratives?

Panelists made up of educators, parents, researchers and psychologists, shortlist ideas conveying a strong message which are presented to directors who in turn present a narrative. The panelists then choose the most convincing narrative and sign up the director.

School Cinema’s works have won three national awards and have been screened in 117 international film festivals.

Having been created for the development of the student’s personality, life skills, health and social awareness, School Cinema’s modules are developed based on life skills recommended by the WHO and Unicef and extensive research conducted across the country with students, parents and educators.

All School Cinema films are certified by the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) and filmmakers include Oscar-nominated and National Award winners, and several international film festival nominated directors such as Revathy, Ashvin Kumar, Atul Taishete, Suresh Triveni, Shashant Shah and Faiza Ahmad Khan.

Value-based films have found their way into classrooms making sure the message reaches children through the most popular medium available today!
