The student community in the State has joined the chorus in support of Jallikattu.
The social media has been flooded with messages, videos and memes explaining the importance and significance of Jallikattu. The messages urged the youngsters to join the protest against the ban on the event.
Protests were held in many places in the State including Chennai and Coimbatore. Students from various colleges, led by those from Madura College, on Tuesday took the matter to the streets in Madurai. Similar protests were held in Pudukottai, Coimbatore, Chennai, Salem and Sivagangai too, where students carried placards explaining the significance of Jallikattu.
The students claimed that they would organise Jallikattu even if the Centre does not pay heed to their their request.
Meanwhile, students of the PSG College of Arts and Science staged a demonstration in the campus today as the College management refused to allow Pongal celebrations in the College. The protest was called off after the management held talks with the students.
