Judge who awarded death penalty in honour killing no more

Coimbatore: Tirupur Principal District Judge Alamelu Natarajan passed away at a private hospital here today.She was 52.

Alamelu shot into fame with her recent judgment awarding death sentence to six persons in an ‘honour killing’ of a Dalit youth.

Sankar was hacked to death by a gang at the behest of his father-in-law in Udumalpet.This was considered to be the first judgement in honour killing cases.

She was admitted to hospital with pulmonary problem two days ago and her condition deteriorated early today and she breathed her last around 11 am, hospital sources said.
