“Before 30 years, people in Tamil Nadu had the option to consume 500+ varieties of Greens. They were consuming these varieties often but as times changed, these greens started to slowly fade. At Keeraikadai.com, we are trying to reintroduce our native green varieties and their seeds to the next generation,” said Sriram, Founder & CEO of Keeraikadai.com on Saturday.

Keeraikadai.com which began in 2018 as an agri start-up has become the one-stop store that provides multiple varieties of traditional greens and innovative plant-based natural food products.

To create awareness about the native greens among the present generation, especially amongst school and college students, the Coimbatore-based brand is organizing a two-day live greens and medicinal plants exhibition called Keerai Expo 2.0. in the city at Krishna Kalyana Mandapam next to Thudiyalur.

Canara Bank’s Assistant General Manager – Coimbatore Zone Satish Chandra Jha participated as the Chief Guest and inaugurated the exhibition.

The expo features a live display of 225 varieties of greens and medicinal plants, many of which have been used for centuries in traditional Indian medicine and nutrition. Each plant is displayed alongside detailed information about its health benefits, offering visitors a chance to understand how these plants can play a crucial role in modern preventive healthcare.

“We have tied up with 1200 farmers, hence we have sourced the greens and medicinal plants from them to exhibit the produces to the public,” Sriram said.

During the first edition of Keerai Expo 2.0, 100 varieties of greens were displayed. Now it is 200+ and in its 3rd edition, it will feature 500 varieties of greens. The organizers expect the overall footfall in these two days to range between 6000-7000 out of which 2000-3000 would be from the student-community.

“We have invited all the schools and colleges to take part in this event. If just 20% of the participating students share the value of greens to their generation, and the next gen., our society will be disease-free society,” Sriram said.

Another key feature of the expo will be the display of Keerai Kadai’s innovative products, including the popular Greeny Dip Soups and Herbal Tea Twist range. These products are an example of how traditional greens and herbs can be integrated into modern diets in a convenient, accessible way

The Greeny Dip Soups, for example, are a unique innovation that allows busy professionals and families to easily consume greens by simply dipping a sachet in hot water. Available in flavours like Moringa, Ashwagandha, Thoothuvalai, Brahmi, Amla, etc these soups are packed with essential nutrients like iron, fiber, and vitamins, making them a perfect addition to any diet. Similarly, the Herbal Tea Twist range, featuring Hibiscus and Blue Pea Tea, offers an easy way to enjoy the antioxidant-rich benefits of these flowers, known for their abilities to aid digestion, improve skin health, aid weight loss and reduce stress.

Speaking at the sidelines of the press conference, Sriram shared that Tamil Nadu and North Indian states consume green in good numbers. There is revival among people to pursue a healthy diet. Globally, Tamil Nadu stands no.1 in producing greens. The State gives much importance to their cultivation.
