The Kerala Government has announced a Rs. 10 lakh compensation to the kin of Murugan, who was allegedly denied treatment by various hospitals in Kerala citing the absence of a ventilator. The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday.

A native of Nagercoil in Tamil Nadu, Murugan was seriously injured in an accident on Sunday last Chathannur. Local people and traffic volunteers rushed him to a hospital, where he was denied treatment due to lack of ventilator. He was moved from one hospital to another and breathed his last in an ambulance while being rushed to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital.

Earlier in the day, family members of Murugan called on Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan. The compensation amount would be put in a fixed deposit, so that the family gets an interest from it every month.
