Members of the Left parties and the advocates associations staged demonstrations in Coimbatore on Tuesday, protesting against the students issues plaguing the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi.

While the CPI and CPI-M protested near the South Taluk Office, members of the All India Lawyers’ Union (AILU) staged a demonstration in front of the Coimbatore Sessions Court.

Participating in the protest, the members of the Left parties alleged that the ruling BJP is using its student’s union ABVP to create communal and religious clashes among students. They also condemned the death threat given to CPI Leader Sitaram Yechury.

Condemning the arrests of the protesting JNU students under the National Security Act, members of the AILU claimed that the students should be released immediately as their detention was illegal.
