The NGO, Make Ooty Beautiful, is all set to host its second annual free shop on March 13. Shobana Chandrashekar, the founder of the NGO, has invited contribution in cash or kind from philanthropists for the event.

Make Ooty Beautiful (MOB) is an NGO that aims at improving the life of the residents of the Nilgiri hills. Last year MOB organized its debut free shop. Its members and volunteers invited their friends, colleagues and the public to donate used or unused items, accessories, clothes, stationery, and other things that they wouldn’t need. The gathered items were inspected, segregated, and then put up on display.

Families from the lower socio-economic backgrounds were invited to participate in this free shop. They queued up and patiently waited for their turn to participate in the free shop. What impressed the organizers is the fact that each and every person who participated in this event picked up only the items that they needed the most and could not afford to purchase otherwise.

“The first free shop that we organized was very useful for the families that are trying hard to make ends meet. On the other hand, friends, well wishers and the public made their donations generously. The free shop was nothing short of a carnival. We are hoping a repeat of the first free shop this year too,” Shobana said.
