Prime Minister Narendra Modi has rightly caught ministers misusing funds of Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). There has been the charge that some ministers use funds from PSUs under their control for sprucing up their residential or official accommodation after limits set by the authorities are exhausted.

What is ideal is ensuring PSUs follow normal government rules for all types of expenditure and stop the present dispensation where they have their own rules and senior officers have discretionary powers. Though merger of PSUs like oil companies has been in the air for long, the government should hasten this process and thus save huge amounts on overheads.
