Man dies of burns while trying to save wife

A 26-year-old man died of burn injuries while trying to save his wife who tried to immolate herself.
According to police, Dinesh, a native of Edamanal near Seerkali in Nagapattinam, was working as a agricultural labourer in a private farm near Solakarai for the last four months.
Dinesh, who got married six months ago to Saranya, would return home drunk. On December 3, when Dinesh came home in a drunken state, his wife reprimanded him. A quarrel ensured between them.
Saranya tried to immolate herself. When Dinesh tried to save her, he received serious burn injuries. Hearing the couple’s cries, neighbours rushed to the spot and took them to CMCH. Without responding to the treatment, Dinesh died on Thursday. Saranya is still in the ICU.
Police have registered a case and are investigating.
