A 41-year-old man has sought the help of the Coimbatore City Police on Monday, after he realized that he was conned of more than Rs.7 lakhs by a group into buying gold-plated copper bars.

According to K. Kumar (41), a native of Trichy, he was approached by a gang of three men, including Kalichammy, Afshal, and Harshad, from Coimbatore who were trying to sell a bar of gold worth more than Rs. 7 lakhs. He had allegedly paid Rs.7,22,000 to the gang for the “gold” bar.

“It was only when I checked the quality of the bar did I find that it was a copper bar plated with gold,” he said.

A very shocked Kumar added that he was further humiliated by Kalichamy who threatened him of dire consequences if he took the matter to the police.

“I request the City Police to kindly intervene in the issue, and help me get back my money,” he said in a petition which he submitted to the Commissioner of Police, A. Amalraj.
