Man held for cheating eight women after marrying them

A 53-year-old man, who cheated eight women after marrying them, was arrested here along with his daughter in the wee hours of Thursday.

According to police, Purushothaman entered into wedlock, in different names, with the help of matrimonial centre in Gandhipuram here.

Based on a complaint from a woman in Podanur Police station that the person had married and cheated her some 850 sovereign of gold ornament, police took into custody a man and a woman from the matrimonial centre, Mohanan and Vanajakumari, some 15 days ago.

Further investigation led to the arrest of Purushothaman and his daughter Githanjali from an apartment in the city,Purushothaman said to have confessed that his target group was widows and those interested in remarriage and so far married eight such women, police said.

He has also cheated a few businessmen and amassed crores of money in various parts of Tamil Nadu and Punjab, Maharashtra, Kolkata, Andhra Pradesh, police said.
