The victim, Gunavel (32) of the city was working in a private company in Bengaluru. He was married to Saradha, daughter of Thiyagarajan, a painter in Ganapathy. The couple has a son Ashwanth (3).

Gunavel used to visit his wife and son once in three months. He would quarrel with Saradha whenever he came home. Recently, he had a dispute with his wife and beat her up and she complained to her father.
