Manithaneya Makkal Katchi to demand release of life convicts

Members of the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi would go on a protest on February 7 demanding the release of life convicts who had served more than 10 years in prisons.

Briefing media persons here, I. Ummar, District Secretary of the Party, said that there were many lifetime convicts in the prisons all over the State, of which 49 were Muslims.

“We have been requesting for long the release of life convicts who have served more than 10 years in prison. This is a common thing for prisoners to be released on ​the birthdays of leaders in the states of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. It should also be followed in Tamil Nadu,” he said.

He further added that the members of the organisation would stage demonstrations in Coimbatore, Madurai and Chennai demanding the release of such convicts. The protest in Coimbatore will be held near South Taluk Office on February 7 from 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.
