Medical shop owner arrested for illegally possessing drugs

Coimbatore : A medical shop owner in the city was remanded to custody on Friday, for illegally possessing and selling intoxicating drugs.

According to police, one Parthiban had approached Subramani running J S Medicals in Ganapati seeking the drug for intoxication.

Subramani demanded Rs 500 for the drug and threatened Parthiban, who refused to buy it, either to buy the drug or give him the money, police said.

Out of fear, Parthiban lodged a complaint with nearby police, who rushed to the medical shop last evening and seized 14,800 tablets such as Nitrazepam, Nitromec, Prazil and Alzek, which were illegally stored for sale, they said.

Subramani was on Friday remanded to custody and lodged in the central jail here.
