Migrant worker sentenced to life for raping and killing 85-year-old woman

The special court on Friday convicted a migrant worker from Manipur for raping and murdering an 85-year-old woman last year.

According to police, Mohamed Samir Khan (25), son of Abdul Kalam, from Manipur, on December 18, 2016, consumed alcohol and partied with his friends in Rathinapuri. Under the influence of alcohol, he assaulted, raped and killed Palaiammal, residing in the same area, before fleeing with her gold bangle.

Police arrested Samir and the case was going on in the special court.

On Friday, Justice Gunasekaran sentenced him to life for murder and awarded him a sentence of 10 years each for theft and rape. The court has also ordered him to pay a fine of Rs.1000.
