Miniature statue of Kalam is the latest offering by UMT Raja

Unnal Mudiyum Thambi, fondly called UMT Raja, is known to convey messages through his unique works of art. The Coimbatore-based goldsmith is famous for translating his out-of-the-box thinking into pieces of art. His latest offering is a miniature statue of the former President APJ Abdul Kalam.
The artist has created the miniature statue of Dr. Kalam standing on a pedestal. The base of the pedestal has the initials of the artist, while the initials ‘APJ’ are marked on the pedestal. This, he says, is to commemorate the first death anniversary of the former President.
Speaking to Covai Post UMT Raja shares that he used simple ingredients like black wax, beach sand, and cement to create the statue. It took him one day to complete the work. “The miniature model of Dr. Kalam was placed near the Kuniyamuthur bus stand on July 27, the death anniversary of the former president. Passers-by lit candles and offered flowers to it,” Raja says.
