Though much hype was created by regional BJP leaders that the visit of Narendra Modi’s visit to Coimbatore will augur a change in the political scenario in the State, the Prime Minister made it clear that he was keeping all options open by not mentioning anything about regional politics in the public meeting held at CODISSIA grounds here on Tuesday.

It was given to understand by State President Tamilisai Soundararajan, National General Secretary Muralidhar Rao and other leaders, including Union Ministers Pon Radhakrishnan and Prakash Javadekar, that Modi would address fishermen and farmers’ issues at the meeting. However, in his hour-long speech Modi failed to comment on any party or issue.

Instead, he merely made a list of all the achievements of his government, including the Make in India campaign and Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana. There was not even a mention about the ‘Smart City’ project.

He, however, took a dig at the Indian National Congress for creating blockades for his government from passing essential Bills in the Rajya Sabha for the welfare of the poor.

“The opposition is not helping this son of a poor mother to pass Bills that would help poor people of the country. But the Central Government continues to work in chaos in the Rajya Sabha,” he claimed.

He also added that the Central Government was involved in the process of modifying 1,800 Bills that were against the benefit of people, though the Opposition was not in support of such beneficial proposals.

Harping on terms such as “tea wala” and “son of a poor mother”, Modi pointed out that the Opposition “fears that this son of a poor mother is able to introduce schemes for the welfare of the poor”.

Claiming that his Party men were not involved in any corruption, scam or scandal in the last one and a half years, Modi however alleged that such incidents were common during the Congress rule.
