Questioning the ulterior motives of the writers who were returning their Sahitya Akademi Awards, the president of Indu Makkal Katchi-Tamilagam (IMK-T), Arjun Sampath has asked why there was no outrage when the hand of a college professor in Kerala was chopped off just because he had framed a question about the Prophet a few years ago.

In a letter to the Centre, Arjun Sampath urged the government to accept the awards returned by the writers who were trying to defame the Narendra Modi-led NDA government. He asked why these writers did not condemn or protest when a Christian professor’s hand was chopped off under the Congress-led UPA rule.

“Where were these writers when Bangladeshi writer Tasleema Nasreen was attacked and a fatwa issued against her,” he sought to know.

Suggesting that the Government should remove the Akademi members who were appointed by UPA government, Arjun Sampath said that only those who are patriotic and believed in Indian culture should be appointed to such bodies.
