Tension prevailed on the Salem Court premises as unidentified persons hurled country bombs on two murder-accused outside the Court and hacked one of their accomplices with machetes here on Monday.

According to sources, Chelladurai and John, both from Salem, were reportedly arrested by police in connection with the murder of thug Napolean in Kichipalayam in the district in March 2015.

The duo was later released on conditional bail that they should sign at the Court every day. Friends and brother of Napolean had reportedly attempted to kill the duo on several occasions.

On Monday, when the duo was leaving the court premises in a two-wheeler after signing, they were reportedly attacked by more than 15 members from Napolean’s side. The gang also threw a bomb, but they escaped. However, the explosion injured advocate Murugan Gahr.

While the duo escaped, their accomplice Kanagavel was surrounded by the gang and he was chased and hacked with machetes inside the Court premises. The gang escaped after police personnel arrived on the scene.

A case was registered with the Hasthampatti police regarding the issue and investigation has been initiated.
