Senior Congress leader and former union minister V. Narayanasamy was today sworn in as the Chief Minister of Union Territory of Puducherry. Five other Ministers took oath with him at a ceremony in Gandhi Thidal.

The Lieutenant Governor, Kiran Bedi, administered the oath of office and secrecy. The five Ministers who took oath were A. Namassivayam, M.K. Rao, Shahjahan, M. Candasamy and R. Kamalakannan.

Sixty-nine-year-old Narayanasamy has taken charge as the Chief Minister for the first time, while he served as union minister during the two UPA regimes.

In the May 16 elections, the Congress won 15 seats, while the DMK won two seats to unseat the AINRC that won only eights seats to the 30-member Assembly this time.

Senior party leaders V. Vaithilingam and Namassivayam were camping in Delhi lobbying for the top post. However, the party high command chose Narayanasamy to lead the government.

DMK treasurer M.K.Stalin and Congress general secretary Mukul Wasnik attended the swearing-in ceremony.
